About Hans

Hans Grim is the director of choirs at Fort Worth ISD’s North Side High School. This is his third year with the Fort Worth ISD and his second at North Side after one year at J. P. Elder Middle School.

Last year he prepared the North Side High School Choir to perform the entire film score of The Lord of Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring with the Dallas Pops at Fair Park. That year the choir received a UIL rating of “Excellent”. This year his high school choir has appeared at Sundance Square and the Lena Pope Home’s Marty Leonard Chapel and plans to tour to San Antonio in May.

In 2010, Hans returned to college and graduated in 2012 from Texas Wesleyan with a Bachelor of Arts.

Before obtaining his degree and becoming a high school director, he was involved in over fifty musical productions including the national tours of Mamma Mia and the 3 Red Neck Tenors, local professional theaters such as Dallas Theatre Center and Casa Mañana and colleges including Texas Christian University, Southern Methodist University, the University of North Texas, Weatherford College, TCC and DCC. He also served as a faculty member for All Saints Episcopal School before returning to college.

He is honored to have served as rehearsal accompanist for master storyteller, Betty Buckley. He performed as a special guest jazz artist at Weatherford College in 2012 and also played with the UNT summer lab band that year with Steve Wiest. In 2012 he toured to Fort Worth’s sister city, Guiyang, China as a singing ambassador with Sister Cities.

Hans has also worked in church music since he was a sophomore in high school currently serving as organist at St. Matthews Lutheran in Fort Worth with the wonderful Jolene Webster as their director. He joined them on a performing tour to several Eastern European countries this past summer. He has recently begun to serve as frequent guest pianist for Congregation Avath Shalom with their gifted Cantor Shoshana Abrams.

Hans is also an accomplished vocalist having won the top Sigma Alpha Iota American Repertoire Award in 2012. He is also proud to have performed in the very special first “Christmas at the Carillon” with Dr. Craig Hella Johnson’s New Texas Festival Singers which would go on to evolve into the Grammy winning ‘Conspirare’. He has also performed on stage at Granbury Opera House and at Bass Hall as a member of the quartet in a Casa Mañana’s Music Man.

Hans has become a favorite of Bass Hall’s Performing Arts Fort Worth and is happy to be returning for a third summer as an accompanist and section leader for their summer high school and middle school choir camps. This past summer he served on the Texas Education Agency’s Textbook Review Panel in Austin. He is an active member of Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Choral Directors Association, and United Educators Association. He is also a proud alumnus of the Texas Wesleyan Music Department and is about to host his second student teacher as well as serving as mentor to J. P. Elder Middle School’s newest choir director.

Future plans include gaining administrative approval to offering an AP Music Theory course to North Side students next year.

Hans is married to local actress Mary Gilbreath Grim who was a resident actress at Casa Manana and is currently performing at Contemporary Theatre of Dallas. His twelve year old son, Max is a featured soloist with the Texas Boys Choir and daughters Rose (8) and Maddie (6) are budding young artists about to burst onto the scene to share their talents as well.Enhanced by Zemanta
